| And as mentioned
previously the PR machine had been in overdrive to ensure the best
opportunities were being made of the imminent service upgrade, it was
also involved in other more safety conscious exercises.
This not only extended to staff as there was a campaign to visit
120 schools in the Preston area by locomotive drivers were approx
10,000 children attended the lectures. Also some 7,000 leaflets and
posters were distributed, to business premises adjacent to electrified
routes. Finally senior police, fire and ambulance officers had also
been instructed on safety procedures. |

The media played an important role during the project from the
very first announcement. Documents like this one were reproduced
in several guises for example 'Building a New Railway Crewe to
Glasgow', with much the same information. They also provided much
of the input used by the railway magazines of the time, many
quoting verbatim.

also given the treatment with a number of campaigns many of which
had supporting posters or handouts such as this.
