Relief Blackpool - Leeds express entering Preston Station

View northward, towards Lancaster and Carlisle on the ex-LNW WCML and (to the left) Blackpool/Fleetwood (ex-LNW and L&Y Joint). By 1960 locomotives from the LNER/Eastern Region were not uncommon at busy Holiday times, but this couple double-headed was probably very unusual: they are Gresley K3 2-6-0's Nos. 61853 piloting 61975, both of Ardsley (Leeds) Depot. They are headed for the East Lancashire platforms at Preston, then via Blackburn, Burnley and Sowerby Bridge to Leeds (Central).
