Preston Station, with train

View southward, towards Wigan, Crewe, Manchester, Liverpool etc. The 13.20 Crewe to Windermere express arrives at the Down Main Platform 3 on a Summer Saturday, headed by Stanier Class 5 (later series) 4-6-0, No. 44769. Signs of modernization of this major junction on the West Coast Main Line are evident - and the Holiday traffic is not as intense as it had been.
