THE LITTLE NORTH WESTERN - NEW!

This double DVD set filmed between 1999 and 2009 covers what is left of the former Little North Western Railway, the section from Morecambe and Heysham via Lancaster Green Ayre to Wennington Junction being closed in 1965.

The line is only a shadow of its former self now, between Carnforth and Settle Junction there are only about 5 trains a day from Leeds and Skipton to Morecambe.

Although the line still gets quite a lot of use from charters, empty stock and engineering trains also steam and diesel locos on test runs from West Coast Railways at Carnforth.

Carnforth is located on the west coast main line, at the junction to the lines to barrow-in-furness & skipton.

This DVD contains the original sound track, there no commentary to spoil your viewing.

It was filmed from 1994 onwards and shows the many passenger and freight workings in and around the Carnforth area. There is vast variety of steam and diesel locomotives on show.

We start in 1994 with 31439 'North Yorkshire Moors Railway ' in regional railways livery on a Barrow- in- Furness to Manchester Victoria passenger service also featured on this service is BR blue 31427 .
Class 31and 37 were once a common sight on most freight in the Carnforth area, they are shown working on engineers, nuclear flask and the Sellafield to Sandbach acid Tanks .as well as china clay and other freight workings. They appear in a wide variety of liveries such as BR blue, Regional railways, Intercity as well as the different freight sector liveries . 37025 'Inverness TMD' & 37165 feature doubled headed on a stone train from the Bottom End Yard. Dutch liveried 37377 on a long welded rail from Workington. as well as many other engineers workings.

There are a number of charter workings through the Carnforth area featured, the A1A North by North west charter on the Barrow leg of the tour with 33202 'Burma Star' & 31405 'Mappa Mudi'. D172 'Ixon' on the Northern Belle returning south off the Little North Western. Intercity liveryed 47820 on the Manchester Executive Pullmans The Statesman, and DRS 20304/305 on The Geordie Choppers railtour from Newcastle as they swap places with 58011 for the return leg to Bristol. Also shown is 56114/029 on The Barrow BOUY railtour.

Also featured are a number of steam workings 48151 on the Midland Scot, industrial steam loco lindsey working in the now closed Steamtown. 5972 Olton Hall on its loaded test run over shap in GWR green and. BR Standard 4 75019 on a empty stock working back to carnforth and 60532 Blue Peter as it sets off down the West Coast mainline on empty stock . Ivatt 46441 in LMS marron on a charter train as it heads away from Carnforth on to the Little North western to Settle.

There are also a wide variety of traction on West Coast freight and passenger workings with intercity 86s, 87s, 90s on the London - Glasgow and Cross Country sevices. featured are pairs of 37s and 60s on the Irvine to Burngullow china clay, 56 on the Hardendale to Margam Limestone 56s & 60s on oil trains to stanlow and coal trains from Scotland. 86s, 90s, 92s on a a variety of freight workings such as 90029 'Frachtverbindugen' on a container train, RES 86s on mail workings, RFD liveryed 47235 'The Rover Group' on a southbound car train.

The Dvd finishes with a few winter scenes in the snow at Carnforth with a pair of 86s on a liner heading north as well as other workings.

This twin boxed DVD is a follow up to our original Carnforth DVD and takes us from 1998 up to the present day and contains the original sound track, there is no commentary to spoil your viewing.

DISC 1

The first DVD filmed from 1998 - 2004 & shows the many passenger and freight workings in and around the Carnforth area. Their is a large variety of steam and diesel locomotives on this DVD

Contents :

The DVD starts in 1998 with 31166 in Dutch livery on a nuclear flask train & a pair of 37s in mainline grey passing through the station on the Irvine to Burngullow empty china clay tanks.

This DVD shows 37s on engineers trains as well as and other freight workings. It also shows the change over from EWS to DRS of the nuclear flask traffic & the acid tanks. They appear in a wide variety of liveries such as Mainline grey, Dutch Transrail, DRS & EWS as well as the different freight sector liveries .

37065 in Mainline blue & 37886 in EWS feature doubled headed on a mgr coal train heading south down the west coast mainline.

HNRC liveried 37194 shunts a empty coaching stock in the former steam town. Also BR blue livered 37308 on a failed MPV, As well as many other workings.

Their are a number of charter workings through the Carnforth area featured,

First North Westerns Class 37 farewell tour to Barrow with 37415/421 . The Rhin & Machars Crompton with Fragonset 33021/108.
The Green Express with Fragonset 31128/459,
First North Westerns 101 farewell tour on the Morecambe to Barrow leg of the tour, with a strathclyde, regional railways & BR green livered 101. Also 55009/019 shunting stock out of Steam Town for a railtour.

Also featured are a number of steam workings, a pair of GWR Halls 4936 Kinlet Hall & 4965 Rood Aston Hall on the return leg of a tour from Carlisle to Birmingham New Street LNER B1 61264 renamed and numbered to 61039 'Steinbok' on a ECS move to Steam Town. 46233 'Duchess Of Sutherland' heading for the steep climb over shap. Black five 44996 on 1M40 heading southbound. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester'on its loaded test run to Hellifield.

Their are also a wide variety of traction on West Coast freight and passenger workings with intercity / Virgin 86s, 87s, 90s on the London -Glasgow and Cross Country sevices. featured are a GBRF 66710 on a driver training run from Carlisle to Carnforth, 56 on the Hardendale to Margam Limestone. 86s, 90s, 92s on a a variety of freight workings as well as many other workings.

The Dvd finishes with a few night scenes at Carnforth wtih a convoy of locos passing through the station on to the stabling point, as well as other workings.

The second DVD starts in 2004 with 37427 'Bonty Y Bermo' on The Cumbrian Warrior railtour in EWS livery.

Also the probably never to be repeated scenes of 4772 ' Flying Scotsman ' hauling 45112 'Royal Ordnance Corps' and D1023 ' Western Fusilier ' to the open weekend at Crewe and 5972 ' Olton Hall ' Hauling 46229 ' Duchess Of Hamilton '

We now move on to to see more GM locos of class 57/66/ 67 appearing on freight and passenger workings

It also show DRS operated trains such as the railhead treatment trains, nuclear flasks, acid tanks, container traffic, Serco test trains & railtours, powered by a variety of locomotives, class 20/33/37/47/66. and for a short period of time riviera class 47s are seen working on some of these trains.

Also a number of railtours are featured passing through the Carnforth area such as 47826 'Springburn' & 47851 'Traction Magazine' on a ECS move from Steam Town. 33029 in DRS blue & 33025 in WCR maroon on aWest Coast railtour to Whitby. 67006 ' Royal Sovereign ' on the Three Peaks Tour, as well as many others.

Their are also a wide variety of traction on West Coast freight and passenger workings such as 86259 'Les Ross' in Electric blue on a ECS move to steam town. 60020 in EWS livery on Carnforth to Carlisle ballast working. 60042 ' The Hundred of Hoo ' on a diverted Clitheroe to Mossend cement working. 37605/611 on a Grangemouth to Daventry container train, along with many more freight & passenger workings.

The Dvd finishes with 45690 ' Leander ' departing Carnforth wtih a railtour along the cumbrian coast..

This a high quality twin box DVD set on the West Highland line from Glasgow Queen street to Oban, Fort William and Mallaig and covers most of the stations and scenic locations on these lines.

Filmed digitally between 2005 -2008 the sound is as originally recorded there is no commentary to spoil your viewing.

Contents:

The first DVD is set on the line from Glasgow Queen street and travels along the banks of the River Clyde to Craigendoran Junction up the West Highland line to Oban and Fort William.

The DVD has footage of the West Highland Sleeper with class 37 & 67 haulage, It also contains a variety of West Coast locomotives on the the Royal Scotsman and rail charters, EWS 37s on the northern belle to Oban.

The Blue Pullman is featured with 47709 and 47712 when they visited the line also the Stobart Pullman with 37423 and 37608

Steam locomotives include black five 45407 8F 48151 and 61994 ' The Great Marquess ' working their way up the West Highland to Fortwilliam, 5972 ' Hogwarts Castle ' at Tulloch.

The second DVD focuses on the line from Fort William to Mallaig which is most famous for the Harry Potter films.

There are fantastic views of steam locos hard at work on the very popular Jacobite train.

You journey starts with a look at locations around Fortwilliam then we travel down the line through Banavie alongside Loch Eil over Glenfinnan Viaduct and onwards to Mallaig.

RAILWAYS AROUND LANCASTER

Lancaster is located on the west coast main line approximately 30 mile north of Preston.

This twin box DVD contains all original sound , also there no commentary to spoil your viewing.

This DVD filmed from 1994 onwards shows the many passenger and freight workings through Lancaster area, both steam and diesel locomotives.

Contents:

We start our look on the WCML at Bolton le sands and gradually move south looking at Hest Bank, Morecambe south junction, Lancaster Castle station & Galgate to the south of Lancaster. The two DVDS show the huge change to the railways around Lancaster, from the days of Intercity to VIrgin pendolinos and voyagers.

We also see the big changes to rail freight in the area with the older locos such as class 31/37/47/56/60 which were regularly used on any sort of freight train from engineers to limestone and china clay replaced by class 66s and 92s in charge of the greatly reduced freight that passes through the area.

Among the freight shown passing through the area are trains such as the Hardendale lime stone to Margam, oil tanks from Stanlow to Jarrow and the recently diverted Carlisle to Crewe infrastructure service ,trains which no longer run through this area most of these were class 37/56 or 60 hauled.

Also included are a great variety of charter trains and mail trains on the dvd.
