This series of ten
DVDs are shot from the cabs of 20s, 31s, 37s, 47s, 56s, & 60s,
in the last years of BR and the early privatisation period. They
include views of main lines, goods lines, holding sidings and
depots (some now closed), very often at locations not easily
accessible to the enthusiast.
Each volume is two
hours in length with an average of five or six chapters/locations.
As can be seen from the location listings, there are some
brake-van sequences and footage from the ground at holding
sidings, but a good 90% is from the footplate and is not fixed
camera therefore much peripheral interest can be included, IE.
Other trains, locos etc, Differing from the conventional cab-ride
in this important aspect.
The
main area covered is the north-west with much of Manchester,
Liverpool, Crewe, Chester, Warrington etc, with outlying trips to
Healey Mills, Bescot and Derbyshire.
The films are cab
sounds only, an insert gives details of dates, working time table
numbers, loco numbers and a step by step description of the
locations. The time is occasionally flashed up . Due to battery
and film limitations it was not always possible to include every
mile on longer journeys though every attempt is made to cover all
main points of interest. A good measure of the films cover the
full route and what may be missed on one visit is often covered on
another, where there are multiple visits to a route.
You will find these
films a fascinating recollection of a historic period for our
railways with some locations substantially changed and others just
a memory. |
